Biografiske data
I was born 1959 (Stockholm, Sweden). After graduation from senior high school and a few years working at Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm I went to Gøteborg to study Odontology in 1982. Since 1983, I’m living in the little town of Alingsås situated near Gøteborg. Between 1986 and 1995, I was working with dental public health care and as a private practitioner. Since 1992 I have been working at the Dept. of Prosthetic Dentistry/Dental Materials Science at the Institute of Odontology, Gøteborg (Sweden) mostly at the preclinic and I became responsible for the education in Dental Materials Science in 1996.
In the year 2000 I defended my thesis “On composite resin materials”.
After the year 2000, I was, as deputy, responsible for the preclinical education for dental students (2001-3) and also as deputy responsible for the education of dental technicians (2003-4).
I have also been working part time for the National board of Health and Welfare as director for the Swedish Resource Centre for Dental Materials (KDM) for nearly 5 years.
I am since 2002 an expert of the Swedish Standard Committee for Dentistry as well as in working groups of CEN 55 and ISO/TC 106 and became the chairman of the Swedish Standard Committee for Dentistry in January 2006.
From the 27:th of February 2006, I working part time (50%) as Professor in Dental Materials Science at the IKO/University of Tromsø. (The other part time still as Assoc. Professor at the Dept. of Prosthodontics/Dental Materials Science, Institute of Odontology, Gøteborg, Sweden).
My area of responsibility in Tromsø are the preclinical training at the 5:th semester and also the education in Dental Materials Science (Dentala Biomateriale). I will also be partly involved in the education at higher semesters and the post graduate education.
In addition my intention is to start research in the field of dental materials at the IKO/University of Tromsø as soon as it is possible to do so.
When not working I like playing a game of golf, walking in the nature and having a good time with my family and friends.
Forskningsinteresser
My main interest is focused on polymer materials, polymerization, degradation and erosion processes, analysis of substances eluted from polymer material (e.g. composites) under different conditions.
I’m also involved in research projects concerning working environment and especially the issue concerning allergy to dental materials among dental personnel and dental technicians but also to some extent in patients.
In that respect a new project has recently started concerning evaluation of the alloy Cobalt-Chromium, today widely used as a cheep material for fixed prosthodontics.
Projects on mechanical/physical behaviour of dental as well as materials for craniofacial surgery have been performed and mechanical/physical properties are in addition to the above mentioned also of great interest.
In the near future, however, focus will be on composite resin materials polymerization, degradation and leakage of substances also with a clinical point of view. In addition to that, evaluation of Cobalt-Chromium will be focused on.
Forskningsprosjekter
Most of the research projects below have already been started in Gøteborg. My intention is, however, that collaboration will start with Tromsø University (IKO) as soon as possible and that parts of the projects will be performed at the University of Tromsø. In the beginning that will mostly be restricted to treatment of results and writing because of lack of a research department at IKO at the moment.
1. Optimisation of composite resin and bonding materials for dental use. Curing, conversion, migration, degradation, and evaluation of eluted substances. (Working title 03.2006).
(Collaboration project between University of Tromsø (Dept. of Dental Materials Science, IKO), University of Gøteborg (Dept. of Dental Materials Science, Dept. of Oral Biochemistry, IO/SA), Swedish National Testing and Research Institute, Borås (Dept. of Chemistry and Materials Technology) and University College of Borås (School of Engineering).
2. Processing of non precious alloys for metal-ceramic constructions. Corrosion mechanisms and biological effects.
PhD project. University of Gøteborg. (Dept. of Prosthetic Dentistry/Dental Materials Science/Dental Technician education, IO/SA).
3. Non-precious alloys bonded to dental ceramics.
PhD project. (Uö cosupervisor.) University of Gøteborg. (Dept. of Prosthetic Dentistry/Dental Materials Science/Dental Technician education, IO/SA in collaboration with NIOM/Oslo).
4. Evaluation of abutments for dental implants.
PhD project. (Uö cosupervisor.) University of Gøteborg. (Dept. of Prosthetic Dentistry/Dental Materials Science)
5. Effects of bioactive and non-bioactive materials, cell differentiation and tissue regeneration.
PhD project at Umeå University. (Uö act as cosupervisor in those parts concerning syntetic polymer materials).
6. Evaluation of the working environment among dental technicians.
(Collaboration with Sahlgrenska Academy. Is planned to begin in march 2006)
7. Orthodontic bonding materials. Evaluation and comparison of bonding strength and long time performance.
(Collaboration with the Dept. of Orthodontics IO/SA and the Clinic for Orthodontics in Varberg, Sweden).
8. Evaluation of sorption an solubility behaviour of soft lining materials (for long term use) for removable prothesis.
