STV-2003: The European Union (EU): Institution and politics Work Load

STV-2002 is an elective course which can be included within the obligatory component of 2000 level courses for the bachelor program in political science. It can also be applied as an elective for the bachelor program in health administration, as well as for other social sciences, law, fisheries and humanities. | Contents
The course offers an introduction to the European Union with particular emphasis on its history, institutions and politics. Why was the EU established and how has it developed? What are the central institutions of the EU; what powers do they hold and what functions do they perform? How are policies made and decisions taken?

Take-home assignment and a written exam.
The exams consist of:
- One term paper (take-home): The student will write a paper of maximum 2000 words (5-6 pages) on a given theme. The deadline for completion of the assignment is one week after the assignment has been received. It is possible for two students to co-author a paper, in which case the paper should be a maximum length of 3000 words (8-9 pages).
- One 3 hours written university-based exam.
The term paper is evaluated on the basis of an oral response from the course instructor. In the event the term paper receives a grade of ''F'', it is possible submit an improved paper within a given timeframe, usually one week after the original evaluation.
The final grade is based upon a complete evaluation of the course work, including the term paper and the written university-based exam.
Grading: A-E, F=fail. The course is open for re-sit examination early in the following semester. | Examination semester
