Do you want to give shape to the future society? Do you want to know how social change can be directed?

Social planning demands knowledge from all kinds of disciplines and the ability to link knowledge to social change. Planning takes place in local, regional, national and international levels. Today planning can not be successful without a well developed cultural understanding. Students are trained in seeing connections between daily life, business, public sector, gender and culture in different places.

The teaching is closely linked to research and to planning and development work locally and regionally. The study is inter-disciplinary with theories from human geography, sociology, political science and social anthropology.

One semester abroad or of work experience is included half way in the course of the programme. In the last semester students do an own fieldwork and write a paper under the supervision of the institute. The study is directed towards planning in public and private sector. Students’ participation in teaching and project work is given importance. This is reflected in the ways of working and in an active student environment.

The programme qualifies for admission to the master’s programme at the Institute of Planning and Local Community Research, and to a master’s programme in human geography. Courses from the programme can be minors in other studies.
