The aim of CeSOS is to contribute to the marine engineering science research. Therefore, researchers from all over the world are engaged in the ongoing activities at the Centre. The main sponsor of the project work is the Research Council of Norway. The board group consists of key persons from NTNU and from leading Norwegian research institutes such as SINTEF and DNV.

The organization was founded by a number of well-known and world-famous scientists from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in collaboration with leading staff from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The important issue at the Centre is the recruitment of competent young researchers for postdoctoral studies, as well as the education of new PhD candidates.
