KIKK
Keywords
Workplace learning; Participatory change processes ; ICT as complex artifact
Overview
The name is a Norwegian acronym for Knowledge Management for Internal Communication and Customer Relations. KIKK is a KP-Lab/WP10 case. We explore three research questions from pedagogical, technological and organizational perspectives
Aims
The following research questions are explored:
- Adaptive product development: Analyzing the trajectory of the company's project management software with focus on developer-user interaction;
- Mentoring: How new employees are trained in a customer context through mentoring, and how this exemplifies novice-expert and horizontal boundary-crossing dimensions of knowledge construction;
- Knowledge construction: How knowledge and expertise is produced, accessed, used, shared, and reproduced in the company and across its multiple contexts.
Methods
We use qualitative empirical methods (observation, interview, video analysis) and design methods (from participatory design, to evolutionary prototyping and extreme programming). Our approach is comprehensive for the life cycle of organizational (ICT-mediated) change and therefore combines the socio-cultural approach with socio-technical systems design.
Partners
Safran Software Solutions (Oslo and Stavanger) and InterMedia, UiO
Period of Duration
9/2006 to 9/2008
Outcomes
Understanding existing work in software product development (internal information exchange, product evolution, and customer interaction); participating in creating change in current practice by intervention and introducing a new user support system (web portal); studying user-developer relations, mentoring as knowledge practice, and knowledge building in the organization; developing the first version of participatory change processes (PCP) methodology
