KLAIPEDA UNIVERSITY
KLAIPEDA Klaipėda is the third largest town of Lithuania after Vilnius and Kaunas. It has 202 000 inhabitants and as a coastal town it is the main port of Lithuania. A five minute free ferry ride from Old Port across Curonian lagoon will take you to Neringa, an extraordinary area of forests and sand dunes facing the Baltic Sea. Neringa has the status of a national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Klaipeda is a lively student town with a relatively young population and lots to offer in culture and leisure activities.
KLAIPEDA UNIVERSITY Founded in 1990, Klaipeda University (KU) has seven faculties (Science & Maths, Humanities, Marine Engineering, Art, Pedagogy, Social Sciences, and Health Sciences) plus five institutes and other structural divisions with almost 9000 students altogether. The KU was constructed from a fusion between earlier Klaipeda institutions of polytechnics, pedagogics, and theatre & music, and it also has a strong maritime focus. The KU also has a healthy, well-developed self-confidence – it sees itself as a “beacon that shows the way to the safe shore to those fighting the storm and darkness. Our University welcomes people who are looking for the truth and the good, for happiness and warmth”.
ASSORTED UNIVERSITY The KU has a tutor arrangement that will help you through your first days at KU.
TUITION Tuition fee for main studies is determined by the study program you choose and by the number of courses and academic credits. Exchange students coming under the exchange programme or bilateral agreement do not pay tuition. .
ACCOMMODATION Klaipeda University has a dormitory for international students in the southern part of town. All rooms are furnished, there are two bathrooms in a corridor and two kitchens on each floor. There is a self-service laundry. Rent is 240-360 Litas (70- 104 EUR) per month. Renting a flat is also possible. It is of course more expensive than living in the dormitory. Average cost is 600-1000 Litas (173 – 289 EUR) per month depending on the flat, plus nominal fee for utilities.
