Linz College of education

LINZ COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

LINZ
Linz is situated on the Danube and its historic old centre with Roman fountains and medieval vaults is the heart of a modern city with a high quality of life. It has a population of around 200,000 and lies in the heart of Europe with easy access to many other cities in Austria and surrounding countries. Cultural life is rich, and the Culture Mile along the Danube and the international Ars Electronica Festival are just two examples of a vibrating cultural scene.

LINZ COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
The Linz College of Education, or the Teacher Training College of the Diocese of Linz which is the school's official name, has seven institutes of literary teacher training; religion teacher training; research; further training; etc. Students can enrol in either courses of Qualified Teacher Status for primary schools (6-10-year-olds) or Qualified Teacher Status for lower secondary schools (10 – 15-year-olds). These courses focus on human sciences, methodological and subject studies, teaching practice and supplementary courses - everything a teacher needs.  About 1000 students make use of the courses offered by the  college and many qualified teachers benefit from them on a regular basis.

CURIO
For a relatively small city, Linz has been home to many famous personages. One important inhabitant was Johannes Kepler, who spent several years of his life in the city studying mathematics, and another honoured citizen of the city was Anton Bruckner, who spent the years between 1855 and 1868 in Linz, working as a church organist. The parents of Adolf Hitler are buried near Linz, in the town of Leonding, and their somewhat less than charming son was enrolled in the same Linz school as the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein.
