Applied Biology and Extention Research Group

The Applied Biology and Extension Group is doing high quality applied research and transferring scientific knowledge to the regional aquaculture and fisheries industry. The scientific focus is on increased productivity in the aquaculture industry through research on fish health, welfare and stress reduction in the on growing of salmon and cod. The group is also working on improving juvenile production of halibut. Other research areas include the production and harvest of algae, mussel, decapods (lobster and crab) and marine pollution and its effects of aquaculture and land industries.

The Applied Biology and Extension research group is primarily focused upon the delivery of contract research to the aquaculture and other marine science industries. This group acts as a conduit for linking the research groups within the Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture to the industry and vice versa.
