For Students / International Students / Traineeships, Internships and Placements / International Office Placements / Print

Trainee Position

Program Name: International Office Traineeship
Department: None
Number of Places: 0-1 per year, depending on budgetary restrictions and quality of applicants.
Application Deadline:  April 15
Program Dates:  Begin: August 1
                            End: July 31

Program Description:  An excellent first employment opportunity for students wanting to work in and/or find out more about the international education field.  Past “trainees” have worked on projects such as a “semester package” to market to international students, a “Trainee, Internship, and Placement Portfolio” for both incoming and outgoing students, student advising, various smaller projects, and help with the day-to-day needs of the office.  Future projects may be based on the needs of the international office and the interest and ability of the trainee.

Program Requirements:  All applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree prior to beginning work, preferably within a field such as political science, international relations, languages, etc.

Preferred applicants will:

  • Have some study abroad and/or work abroad experience.
  • Have experience working in an International Office.
  • Have experience and enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Have a desire to work in the International Education field.
  • Have strong written and oral English skills.
  • Be proficient in a language other than English.

Working Language:  The working language of the international office at Bodø University College is English.  It will be helpful to have a willingness to learn some Norwegian as well, but Norwegian knowledge is not a requirement for the job.

Working Hours: 0800-1500 during summer hours (May 15 – September 15), 0800-1545 during the rest of the year, Monday through Friday.  All Norwegian national holidays (which are numerous) that fall during the working week are paid days off.  You will accumulate approximately 10 additional paid days off, but we operate on a “flexible” time schedule so it is possible to take further time off and make it up later. This makes vacations or travel in Europe/home possible.

Full Time/Part Time:  For graduate students, it may be possible to take courses at BUC and work for the international office at 50%.  Otherwise, it is considered a full-time position.

Compensation:  Depends on budget and candidate qualifications.  Approx US 30,000.

To Apply: Please send a current CV, a photo, and a written statement about yourself, your interest in international education, why you want this position, and what makes you a good candidate for Bodø University College to:
