Getting Here

Nearly all international flights to Norway arrive in Oslo. The cost of travelling to Oslo will depend, of course, on where you are travelling from. Flights are generally more expensive during the summer travel season, over holidays and other frequently-travelled times of year. The cheapest flights can generally be found in the wintertime. Travel agencies like Council Travel, STA travel or Kilroy Travels may be able to offer tickets at a special price. Also, by getting the ISIC (International Student Identity Card) you may be able to travel (and gain admission to museums, tourist attractions, etc.) for less. Talk to your international office or check out www.isic.org for more information.

Once in Oslo, you can usually find student tickets on flights to Bodø for between 400 and 800 NOK. We recommend you do a little research using www.norwegian.no, www.sasbraathens.no, and www.wideroe.no to find the best deals on flights. The flight usually takes about and hour and a half from Oslo to Bodø.

The train from Oslo to Bodø takes about 17 hours, with a change in Trondheim. You can book tickets on www.nsb.no. Special fares are available in limited amounts, and students receive a good discount. If you have time, the trip is worth taking to see the spectacular scenery along the way.

Make sure that you plan to arrive a few days ahead of time so that you can get settled into your accommodations and begin to acclimate to the university, city and culture before classes begin, and also to travel a bit if you like.

If you let the International Office know when you plan to arrive in Bodø, we will be happy to arrange to pick you up, give you a short tour of your new surroundings, and bring you to your accommodation.
