The design field is growing internationally, and several of the Nordic countries have established and institutionalized design as a research field interconnected with design practices.

Our approach to design emphasizes

• [use]: use is what decides if the design result is successful or not,
• [complexities]: a diversity of perspectives and understandings of design and use (multidisciplinarity etc), and
• the [process of design]: methods for design - that can include use and complexities.

We organize the research as three strands of projects:

• design of digital [museum mediation],
• design of digital [work environments in learning organisations], and
• design of digital [public spaces].

All projects is used for developing a multidisciplinary perspective on design.

We will establish "cross-themes" that are common to all three projects and contribute to the development of theories of design. Such as:

• [digital storytelling genres]
• [information spaces]

Our approach to design is based on years of research on design within each of the disciplines, and the initiative suggests working together to increase the possibilities for developing synergies between them.
