Incentive
We discussed two major incentives that motivate students to contribute to a wiki. Assessment and Audience. Assessment may be thought of as assessment for learning (formative, in order to refine ideas, stimulate discussion, fill knowledge gaps) and assessment of learning (summative, in order to establish what has been learned). Audience comes into play when students write to communicate a message to an audience for whom they believe their writing will be useful or valuable in some way.

There are special affordances of wiki technology that could support assessment for and of learning.
Examples:
- could include better visualizations of activity over time
- designating specific intermediate versions of a page as critical steps in the development of an idea or set of ideas
- tagging pages to help other find them better
- refactoring as a learning activity
