The Student Organisation at Bodø University College is a volunteer organisation. The main goals for the Student Organisation are to secure the students rights, what regards the student welfare, and to secure the quality of the studies.
The Student Parliament is held eight times a year, and it is an integrated part of the Bodø University College’s democratic system. There are students from every department at school, participating at the Parliament. These students are elected members from each student union.
The Student Board is a workgroup who is working on cases and resolutions made by the student Parliament. It is responsible for the daily responsibilities of the student organisation. The leader of the board is working full time with student issues, as well as there is a secretary working full time. The board includes these board members; president of board, vice president of board, economic responsible, sponsor/marketing responsible, international responsible and two board members. The board is mostly a decision based political board.
The Student Unions are the student boards of the departments. The student unions work with issues connected to the departments administrations. They are also arranging social events for students on their department, and sometimes for the entire school. There are eight different student unions connected to the departments and institutes at Bodø University College.
Student Associations are activity groups and cultural clubs which are not connected to a department, but more connected to different interests. There are many different under groups, some of them are: the student newspaper, Christian student union, the student play, the sports union and the chess club. There is also a student union for internationals, it is called Bodø International. Bodø International arranges social events and works with international issues.
UKA is a cultural festival with the purpose to show the students culture, and has a lot of activities for students. UKA can be translated with “The Week.” Most of the under groups and student unions are cooperating to arrange UKA. The board members for UKA are elected at the student parliament. During UKA there are concerts, political debates, guest lectures, food days and many social events. UKA is held every second year, and is mainly located at campus.
Samfunnet is not a part of the Student Organisation, but a close partner to the student organisations. Samfunnet is a volunteer cultural motor at campus. It is a place where it is possible to arrange many kinds of activities, you will find a pub, disco and everything you’ll need as a student. Samfunnet also has one of the best concert stages in Norway.
Velkomsten is the first expression international and Norwegian students hear at Bodø University College. Velkomsten is translated with “The Welcome,” and its main task is to welcome new students to Bodø. It will provide a wide array of services such as meeting students at the airport, show them their houses and arrange social events the weeks before the school starts.
The Buddy Periode is three weeks with activities for new students. Each student will get a buddy group, and the buddy group goes to different social events together. You will get to know new students, and your way around campus. And most important of it all, you will have lots of fun!!
