Aim and Content
The course covers the chemistry of the most important drugs and drug classes, including three-dimensional configuration, synthesis, metabolism and stability. Furthermore, the relationship between the three-dimensional structure of drugs and the biological activity is emphasized. The course will further serve as the basis for studies of pharmacology and pharmaceutics.
Learning Outcomes
After completing the course the student will from the structure of a compound be able to:
- elaborate on the likely therapeutic use (drug class)
- explain the mechanism of action
- discuss possible binding interactions with biological macromolecules
- discuss properties such as stability and water solubility
- discuss absorption, distribution, metabolism, elimination and toxicity
Language of Instruction
Norwegian
Access to the Course Unit
The course will be open to students at Master Programme in Pharmacy and Master in Pharmacy for pharmacy technician and to students at The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The students also need to fulfil the prerequisites for the course.
