Aim and Content
The course aims to provide basic knowledge of surface- and colloid chemistry from a physical-chemical perspective. Central themes are interfacial phenomena like surface tension, interfacial tension, adsorption, capillarity, wetting, contact angle and electrical properties of interfaces. Colloidal systems, mechanisms for colloidal stability and interactions between colloidal particles will be thought. Furthermore, the course deals with structure and properties of self-associative amphiphile molecules, so-called surfactants.
Learning Outcomes
After completing the course KJEM214 the student will be able to:
- define and explain surface- and interfacial phenomena.
- describe different colloidal systems and explain colloidal stability.
- describe structure and properties of self-associating systems.
