The main focus area is epidemiological surveillance of perinatal health problems and evaluation of health services in connection with childbirth. The Medical Birth Registry of Norway is important with information about more than two million births from 1967 up until today.
Another focus area is how problems in pregnancy may predict the mother's longterm morbidity and mortality. For example, women die at younger ages if they have delivered preterm, if they have had a child with low birth weight, or if they have developed preeclampsia during pregnancy.
