Research group: Animal breeding, genetics and genome analysis |
With a staff of about 45, the Animal breeding, genetics and genome analysis group is the largest research group at IHA. As indicated by its name, the group comprises several fields, including breeding, quantitative genetics, molecular genetics, statistics/mathematics and system theory. The research group's general goal is to efficiently combine the different fields to establish new knowledge on the genetics of animal husbandry and aquaculture.
The group has an extensive research portfolio. Research is co-funded by, and carried out in cooperation with the Research Council of Norway and numerous organisations and companies. The research group consists of permanent and temporary scientific staff and a large group of PhD students. Many of the group's scientists are significantly involved in the research conducted at the Centre for Integrative Genetics (CIGENE). The research group also shares office and lab facilities with researchers employed by various Norwegian livestock organisations.
