Environmental research at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences is organized in a virtual center, Miljøforsk-UMB. It aims to provide links between researchers from various disciplines working on environmental issues.

Research on environmental issues often requires cooperation between various disciplines. Creating arenas for researchers working in areas related to the environment is therefore an important task for Miljøforsk. Externally, Miljøforsk serves as a connection point to researchers for those not knowing whom to contact at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB).
Contact the leader of Miljøforsk, Eirik Romstad, or some of the other persons in the Miljøforsk leadership (see below) to get in touch with those possessing the skills you seek.
Environmentally related research at UMB spans a wide specter of disciplines from various natural sciences (biology, chemistry and biotechnology) to engineering sciences, physical planning, and the social sciences/economics. In addition to research across disciplines, there is substantial basic research taking place at UMB, serving as building blocks for the more applied research.
One of the challenges for environmental research is to have methods and tools available when issuses emerge. In addition to the externally financed environmental research at UMB, Miljøforsk has its own internal projects. The purpose of these projects is to start research on topics that may become relevant a few years into the future. These internal projects are partly cross- or multidisciplinary, and partly they are disciplinary or methods oriented.
The leadership team of Miljøforsk consists of three researchers with different academic backgrounds to have a larger internal informal contact base. Based on the overall strategic guidelines from the UMB Board, and the UMB research board, the leadership team develops action plans, supports the research in various ways, develops meeting arenas, and provide information about environmental research at UMB. The university research administration is the secretariat of Miljøforsk.
The members of the leadership team are:
Eirik Romstad (leader) works at the
Department of Economics and Resource Management, and is an economist specializing in environmental economics.
Jan Mulder works at the
Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, and is a chemist with specialization in soil chemistry and geology.
Gary Fry works at the
Department of Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning, and is a biologist with specialization in population dynamics and spatial analysis.
