Credit and evaluation
Student Information Centre
Here you will find information about the assessment and grading system.
1. Assessment
Examinations can be done in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish or English, even for courses taught in Norwegian. If you fail an examination or for certain reasons cannot take the examination as scheduled, it is possible to re-sit the examination in the next term.
2. Local grading system
Grades are either given as a letter grade or as a pass/failure. The letter grades range from A (best) to F (failure). E is the lowest passing grade.
3. Local course credit system
All universities and colleges in Norway have a credit system based on 60 course credit units per full-time study year. Credits are assigned to all courses and at NLH the majority are 5 or 10-credit courses. A normal term workload of 30 credits thus corresponds to approximately 3 to 5 courses.
The grading scale and course credit system are both equivalent to those of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).
Description of valuation criteria is found here in Norwegian and in English.
