Registration at the National Registration Office
If you intend to study in Norway for more than 6 months, you must apply for a Norwegian ID number at the National Registry Office (Folkeregisteret). Any change of address inside or outside Norway must be registered here. Thus it is necessary for the student also to notify the National Registry Office when leaving Norway for good.
Processing time when registering for the first time is normally 4 weeks.
Registration at the Registrars office at NLH is based on a Norwegian ID number. To cover the period before the student is provided with the Norwegian ID, the Registrars office generates an 11 digit replacement number. This is not a Norwegian ID number and must only be used within NLH. When obtaining a Norwegian ID number the student must provide a copy of the documentation to the Student Information Centre.
Documentation required: A valid passport with residents permit
