The Erasmus Programme
SiT
Why and how do you become an Erasmus student? If you wish to study at a university in an EU country, it is usually a good idea to travel through the Erasmus programme. Here are some of the advantages: You get an Erasmus scholarship of NOK 1800 each month. You do not have to pay any student fee at the host university. The host university will help you in finding accommodation. Many universities arrange own introduction programmes and language courses for Erasmus students.
You apply for study place and Erasmus scholarship through an application form from the Student Information Centre (SIT) which you find in the Economy Building. Since it most often is a department that “owns” the agreement, the departments decide the students that may travel through the agreement. This is because most of the agreements are course specific. Note that it sometimes is possible to apply for study places that are usually reserved for another department than your own if there are no internal appliers for these places.
There may be different closing dates for applications at the different institutions abroad. You should therefore do some research well in advance of travelling. The general closing dates for applications are in April (for the autumn term and a whole study year) and in November (for the spring term), but the closing dates are often flexible as long as there are places available.
A stay abroad through the Erasmus programme must last for minimum three and maximum twelve months. If you are studying abroad for a whole year, the year must start in the autumn term. You can find more information and detailed regulations for the Socrates/Erasmus programme on
www.siu.no/erasmus.
1 March is the closing date for applications for Erasmus scholarships. You will get an answer from SIT in the Economy Building regardless of the application result!
