Dry woodland resources in Uganda - Use and Management
INA
Forests and woodlands are central to the three pillars of sustainable development; economy, society and environment. In Uganda, forests cover about 24% of total land. 81 % of these are woodlands. Woodlands are a major source of charcoal and firewood, major grazing areas and occasionally cleared for agricultural expansion.

Main Objective
Provide an in-depth understanding of the development/growth, use and potential management strategies for the dry woodlands.
Specific objectives
–Develop a matrix growth model to predict forest resource development in terms of tree distribution by species and size
–Assessing the potential bio-energy supply from the dry woodlands of Uganda
–Develop a bio-economic model to analyze woodland degradation
–Discuss the potential impacts of policy/management interventions on the livelihoods of surrounding communities
