CVC2-code / Card Verification Code
The CVC2 code consists of the last 3 digits of the number printed inside the signature field on the back of your credit card.
Card verification code or CVV / CVC2-code is an extra security code printed on your credit card.
This code is only accessible to the cardholder, and is used to verify beyond any doubt that you actually hold the card you are using for this transaction. It also prevents anyone other than you from shopping with your card number.
With American Express the CVC appears as a separate 4-digit code printed on the front of your card (see image below).
For all other cards (Visa, MasterCard, Eurocard, Diners, Dankort etc), the CVC-code is the final three digits of the number printed in the signature strip on the reverse of your card (see image below).
The CVC-code is also called "Card Verification Value" (CVV), "Card Security Code" or "Personal Security Code". All names cover the same information.
