Business Management

Duration:

1 year

Entry requirements:

General University college entrance requirements

Aims and objectives:

This programme of studies offers students a basic introduction to economics, business administration, individual and organizational behaviour, marketing; it also includes method courses in mathematics and statistics.
The programme has the following three goals:
1. To provide competence in both private and public workplaces.
2. To provide an additional competence in economics and administration for workers in a variety of commercial ventures and for students who already have a professional education background, for example in engineering, fish-biology, and nursing, who wish to expand the expertise in these areas of economics and administration.
3. To provide the basis for continuing education in the area of business administration. After completing this programme, for example, a student can apply for the second year course in Aalesund University College's export marketing programme, or continue his/her education at other district colleges, universities within Norway and abroad.

The study programme is compatible with both 20 and 60 point credit study in combination with other study programmes (e.g. a university college cand. mag degreee), but the students need to enquire about possible duplication of courses before beginning the programme of studies.

Teaching methods:

Teaching is mainly done through lecturing, group work, and individual (directed) exercise. There are required submissions in specific courses, as well as case problems to be solved and presented in the classroom. Many of the topics will require using data equipment.
Regular working patterns are expected for each semester regarding class assignments. Students need to observe dates for required submissions and tests each semester.

Structure and activities:

The course is covers two semesters over one academic year. This study programme is identical with the first year of the Export Marketing programme. As can be seen in the course description, students receive an introduction to topics in economics, business administration, individual and organizational behaviour, and marketing. In addition there are 12 credits of basic method courses.
After completing this study programme, the students can apply to the second year Export Marketing programme.
