Driving licence

Students staying in Norway for less than one year do not need a special driving licence. For students who intend to stay for longer, an international driving licence is required. For your own convenience, you are advised to acquire the international driving licence in your home country before leaving for Norway. Contact your national motoring association or the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency for further information.

Timetables and other information relating to buses, trams, or trains in Trondheim and Central Norway is available at Trafikanten Midt-Norge, Trondheim Central Station.

A single bus fare within the boundaries of the city costs NOK 22 (the ticket is valid for one hour and transferable between buses). However, the average fare will be lower if you purchase one of the various kinds of travel-passes available:

  • 24 hours - NOK 55

  • Coupon for 12 trips - 225 NOK
  • Coupon for 30 trips - 560 NOK

On Friday and Saturday nights, from 1am to 4 am, there are several bus services available FROM (not to) the city centre. In this case no travel-passes are valid and the fare is NOK 50.
