This is a 2-year programme, in which students may choose whether they wish to study folk music or folk art. The programme has a performance-orientated profile. The aim is that students will become either competent folk music performers or folk art artists. At the same time students will gain insight into the circumstances surrounding traditional art and learn to critically reflect on how it is sustained, used, maintained, renewed and interpreted in various milieus. The programme consists of an introductory course and an MA project.
Programme courses:
Introduction (30 ECTS) includes:
1. Art Theory and Folk Art
2. Culture and Identity
3. Tradition, Communication and Performance
4. Scientific Theory
Master’s Project (30 ECTS)
Master’s Project (60 ECTS)

Teaching and learning methods:

The Master’s project is an independent project under supervision, where individual supervision is the most important teaching method. Teaching consists of lectures and seminars, and is designed to prepare students for their projects. The programme also includes sessions where student and lecturers may discuss progress concerning project plans.
