IndEcol Apprentice Program - An early start to research
The Industrial Ecology "apprenticeship" is a research stipend for selected Industrial Ecology students. The apprentice program allows students to participate in a research group or an ongoing research project already during their earlier years of study. It includes extra advising, a stipend, and help finding a relevant summer job.
One of the advantages of the Master's program in Industrial Ecology, is that students can choose among many courses. The idea of a stipend is to associate a student earlier with a research group or research project in order to provide extra motivation for acquiring knowledge both through courses and outside reading. The research advisor will also help the apprentice finding an appropriate summer job. Students will thus be able to make a more substantial contribution to the research at IndEcol.
The apprentice program is especially for students who know early what they want and who are willing to put in some extra effort to produce publishable research results. Students who want to take more time to find out what they want and to explore the content of Industrial Ecology may be better off waiting until the final year before choosing a research subject.
The award includes a 1000 NOK stipend and 100 hours as research assistant.
The students apply within one of these seven areas:
Energy systems and energy conversion
Material flow and recycling
Environmental systems analysis
Ecodesign
Integrated product policy
Sustainable consumption
Corporate social responsibility
Applications should include a CV, a transcript and 1-page cover letter describing the motivation and research interest. Applications should be sent to IndEcol coordinator Elin Mathiassen.
Two students will be admitted in the fall term and two students in the spring term. Application deadlines are 18 September 2006 and 15 January 2007.
The work of former Apprentice students is published in the Publications section of the IndEcol site.
