Refugees from South East Asia300
Emergency cases100
Medical cases20 or more
Unallocated places 215
Places for alternative resettlement activities65

Selection missions in connection with the resettlement quota 2005:

  • Thailand (December 2004)
  • Malawi (March 2005)
  • Zambia (March 2005)
  • Malaysia (September 2005)

The sub-quotas for Africa and South East Asia will be filled as a result of the selection missions. Some of the unallocated places will also be used in connection with these missions. The refugees selected from Thailand and Malaysia will be mainly nationals from Myanmar. From Malawi and Zambia, the selected refugees are mostly Congolese, in addition to some Burundians.

Medical cases, emergency cases and unallocated places will be used for a number of nationalities.

100 places (unallocated places) will be reserved for Vietnamese nationals residing in the Philippines. This is a result of the decision made by the Parliament in December 2004, to make a temporary act that gives a specified group of Vietnamese nationals in the Philippines, with relatives in Norway, right to residency in Norway. This group was not presented to Norwegian authorities by UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), as other quota cases ordinarily are.

In 2005, the places for alternative resettlement activities have partly been used to finance a cultural orientation programme (CO-programme) for quota refugees that are to be resettled in Norway, and an information project on Burmese refugees, directed at receiving municipalities in Norway. Any unused funds will be converted into ordinary quota places by the end of the year.
