Case processing for skilled workers
-Generally it takes between 3-5 weeks to process an application for a skilled worker permit, says Morten Hansen Acting head of The Residence Department at UDI.
Cases that are easy/well documented are processed consecutively.
- The regulation requires that applications are documented. In the cases where there is lack of proper documentation the processing time could be longer says, Morten Hansen.
Hansen pointed out that, the regulation demands stricter requirements for skillled workers who are citizens of non-EU/EEA countries. The police can issue a temporary work permit where it is clear that an application for a permit will be granted. In order to obtain such a permit, you must have come to Norway and be ready to start work.
The number of people applying for work permit will most likely increase in 2007. UDI is evaluating improvements that can shorten the case processing time and better information to our users.
A challenge for a shorter processing time lies in the fact that applications are sent bewteeen different iauthorities. This alone can result in three-four week time consumption. A future transition to electronic case processing could lead to a significant change in the case processing time, says Morten Hansen.
The future developments in the labour market will control the need for foreign work force. UDI's role will be among others to provide good service to its users, including shorter case processing time and to ensure that relevant and correct information is available to our users.
