Labour immigration from Romania and Bulgaria
Romainan and Bulgarian citizens cannot currently apply for permits based on the transitional rules. It will probably take several months before the transitional rules come into effect.
On the 29th March, a temporary agreement was entered into on the extension of the EU/EEA-agreement to include the new member countries, Romania and Bulgaria. The agreement will not be effective until the formal resolutions are made within the relevant EU-organ. After that, The Storting (The Norwegian Parliament) must approve of the EU/EEA extension. UDI will then know which date the transitional rules will come into effect when this has been done.
It could therefore take several months before citizens of Romania and Bulgaria could be able to apply for permits based on the transitional rules. Until then, they must still follow the same procedures as those of countries outside the EU-/EEA-area.
