The processing of applications for Norwegian citizenship from the MUFs are resumed

After the UDI has received new guidelines from the The Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion (AID), the UDI has resumed the processing of applications for Norwegian citizenship from Iraqi citizens who have previously had a temporary permit in Norway, the MUF-permit.

The applications for Norwegian citizenship were put on hold due to instructions from the AID in the summer of 2006. The Ministry has now agreed on  further guidelines for the processing of these applications, and the UDI has therefore resumed processing the cases. The applications that are older than the estimated case processing time of 10 months, will be given high priority.

Contents of the instructions

The most important contents of the Ministry's instructions are as follows:

  • For those who have had the  MUF-permit and applied for citizenship before 1st September 2006 (when the citizenship laws came into effect), there is a requirement that the applicant has a settlement permit or fulfills the requirements for a settlement permit.
  • For applications submitted after this date, the requirements for Norwegian citizenship based on the current regulations apply.
