Black and white about reception centres
Several news outlets have this week reported on youth residents in reception centres who offer sex for sale. UDI is familiar with the problem and has good routines for co-operating with the reception centres, the police and the child protection agency to protect residents who may be subject to forced prostitution.
In an article published in Dagbladet Monday August 30, it was claimed that the management of the reception centre at Hvalstad in Asker so far this year has sent 8 notes of concern to the police, the UDI and the child protection agency concerning children who are offering sex for sale. This is not correct. The management by Hvalstad reception centre has made it clear that 3 of the notes which were sent this year were related to forced prostitution. The remainder of the notes were related to forced marriage (1) and forced labour (4). It is important to be aware that these notes express concern and does not confirm that events actually have occurred.
The youth residents in reception centres that may be in danger of abuse are protected. When the reception centres discloses such relation, the UDI co-operates with the police and the child protection agency responsible for providing an service to youths who may be abused.
