Cases without sufficient documentation have been sent to the police in order to retrieve additional information. The UDI is at the same time trying to assess whether proof of identification attached to many cases are valid.
Nearly 250 cases are currently processed by the UDI. In most of the cases, documentation needed for a decision is missing. The UDI will process these cases as soon as this documentation has been received.
Applicants who were granted residence based on strong humanitarian grounds
For the nearly 200 applicants who were granted permits based on strong humanitarian grounds, the changes imply that their applications will be assessed anew as first time applications, and not as renewals of permits.
Each application is assessed on individual merit based on the new regulation.
The new practise established for assessing strong humanitarian grounds clarifies that weight is to be given to issues of health, children, conditions in the country of origin, and issues relating to immigration policy.
The number of years the applicant has resided in Norway will be considered in the processing, but will not alone be given decisive weight.
Of the about 200 applicants who were granted permits based on strong humanitarian grounds, the UDI has so far processed about 50 applications. About 10 have been granted a renewal of their permits, while the rest have received rejections on their application for renewed residence. It is still too early to say anything about the outcome of rest of the cases,
This is in accordance with the regulation
Applicants who were granted work permit after the temporary regulation § 2, i.e. who are working full time and have valid proof of identification
By the end of week 42, about 350 applications have been processed. Approximately 250 of these applications have been approved based on the temporary regulation § 2.
Security
We have so far received a few strong reactions from some applicants who have had their applications rejected. This amounts to a few threats per phone as well as threatening behaviour in our service centre.
The incidents have been treated in accordance with the internal procedures for security for employees, and in contact with the police.
