What happens if your application is granted?

If your application for asylum is granted, you will be given a work and/or residence permit in Norway as a refugee.

If you are not granted asylum, the Norwegian authorities will automatically assess whether you may nevertheless be granted a residence permit either on other protection grounds or on humanitarian grounds. There must be strong humanitarian considerations in such cases.

Travel document

As a refugee you will receive a refugee travel document instead of your passport. This travel document is not valid for trips to your home country. If you are granted residence on humanitarian grounds, you will normally be issued with a immigrant’s passport.
