Doctoral education at the Faculty of Psychology
The Faculty of Psychology offers doctoral education (PhD). The opportunity also exists to defend a dr.philos. (doctor philosophiae) at the faculty.
PhD
The doctoral education lasts for a standard period of three years and includes independent scientific work in the form of a thesis to be defended at a public defence. In addition, the organized doctoral education includes a training module (30 ects) lasting one semester.
The faculty is responsible for coordinating the programme.
Dr.philos.
The degree of dr.philos. (Doctor Philosophiae) is not subject to the arrangements for doctoral education, and has its own regulation. The text found under "Guidelines and regulations" provide more information. Candidates admitted to a programme of doctoral education cannot present themselves for the degree of dr. philos.

The training component at the Faculty of Psychology must involve activities equivalent to 30 credits, i.e. the training component will be equivalent to six months’ work.

Procedures for completionSmall images:
From autumn 2004 everyone will present one's dissertation according to the PhD regulations. This means that there only will be held one trial lecture (on a given subject) in addition to the dissertation.

Admission requirements are based on the University of Bergen’s rules and additional guidelines for the Faculty of Psychology.

Funding for doctoral training activities
PhD candidates admitted to the organized Doctoral education at the Faculty of Psychology, and with documented progress according to the agreed plan, are eligible to apply for travel funds from the Faculty.
