Scholars at Risk

UiB is member of the international university network 'Scholars at Risk' which promotes academic freedom and human rights of scholars.

The core activity of the network is to help individually threatened academics by giving them temporary academic positions at its member institutions. The University of Bergen is currently hosting one scholar.

Academic freedom
With a focus on outstanding and fundamental research, UiB promotes a free and critical academic community where opinions can be freely shared, and where staff and students can engage in unbiased and open debate. These values are not equally strong everywhere, and many scholars experience restrictions in their research, teaching, publication and dissemination. Some are imprisoned or even threatened on life.

UiB Global represents UiB in the Norwegian section of SAR. Please contact Ann Margret Hauknes with your enquiries.

Growing network
Established at University of Chicago in 2000, Scholars at Risk has today more than 330 member institutions around the world. UiB joined the network in 2008. Today there are 20 members of SAR Norway.
