Bramham Lab

The synapse is a main instrument of neuronal communication and information storage in the brain. Memory storage and other adaptive changes in brain function are thought to depend on experience-dependent changes in synaptic strength and structure. This fundamental property of synapses is known as synaptic plasticity.

    Goals

The overriding goal of the lab is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms, regulation, and functions of long-term synaptic plasticity in relation to specific neural circuits in the adult brain. Our multidisciplinary approach combines electrophysiological studies in live rats and brain slices with molecular biological and imaging techniques including time-lapse multiphoton microscopy.
