Haavik and collaborators are engaged in research work in molecular neurobiology.

Their main line of activity is related to studies on the regulation of the synthesis of neurotransmitter molecules and how this is related to serious neurological and psychiatric disorders, such as bipolar disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and substance abuse disorders (adhdprosjektet.b.uib.no).
