About performing numerical simulations of snowdrift

In addition to have a verified numerical snowdrift model, it is crucial to give correct input parameters for local wind and snow conditions. This depends very much on the user qualifications and knowledge of snow engineering. Performing numerical snowdrift simulations requires a minimum of local meteorological data. Such data must be carefully analysed. A rule of thumb rule always to perform field observations on the current site before continuing to numerical modelling.

Numerical simulations of snowdrift can be a useful tool in snowdrift analysis. However, it must always be remembered that simulations are only a part of an analysing process, which also involves experience and human practical sense

Numerical snowdrift software is still a tool for the experienced user.
