Gmail and spam
I have an email account that I've used a long time. It has been published on web-pages back in the old days when that was common, and it has been registered in a lot of places. The last couple of years it became useless. I have checked it now and then, but usually 99% of the emails received on this account are spam (I created a auto-relply for this account that includes enough information to get my currently used work email address, so most of my contacs have stopped using it). On a normal day I might receive more that 50 emails on this account (sometimes much more). However, the email address is easy to remember and it is still often the first email address people find when they are looking for me. I wanted it back! So a couple of days ago I started forwarding all my emails to this account to my gmail account. The result: No spam at all!. The spam protection provided on gmail accounts seems to be almost perfect (sometimes non-spam is marked as spam, but I can live with that). The Apple Mail client is also good in detecting spam, but gmail spam filtering is impressive.
