Nature is: astonishing - beautiful - complex - darwinian - evolving - filled with fish - green - harvested - insane - kruel - lenient - mysterious - neatly organized - one big mess - possibly based on some fundamental rules and processes - quirky - resilient - sick - timeless - useful source of timber and food - vertebrates and the rest - water, water, water. Why is nature like that? We already know a lot about the reasons behind the many patterns that we can observe. Still, there are many intriguing questions left.
My research focuses on the interplay of ecological and evolutionary processes, and I explore them with various modelling techniques. My current interests include harvesting-induced life history evolution, evolution of male life histories, and the role of males in population dynamics.
I am also interested in ecology and biodiversity of aquatic insects. Together with students and colleagues in the Czech Republic, I explore factors shaping community dynamics in small temporary or permanent water bodies.
