The Quota Scheme
Each year Norwegian universities and colleges admit a number of students from developing countries and countries in Central and Eastern Europe and Central-Asia under the Quota Scheme.
The State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen) is responsible for the funding.
The goal of the Quota Scheme
Studies are offered on bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level in many different academic areas. The goal of the Quota Scheme is to give students relevant education that would benefit their home countries when they return after graduation. Also, the scheme contributes to strengthen Norwegian institutions of higher education's participation in the global knowledge cooperation.
What does the funding scheme cover?
Students who are admitted to the Quota Scheme may receive financial support from Lånekassen in the form of loans and grants. The loan may be cancelled when the students return to their home countries to take up permanent residence there after finishing their education. Students who stay in Norway or take up residence in another country than their home country after finishing their education must repay their loan.
Students may not apply for financial support from Lånekassen before they are admitted to the Quota Scheme and have arrived in Norway. Lånekassen is not involved in the admission process and does not have information about the programmes that are offered. For more information about the scheme, the admission process etc, please contact one of the academic institutions that participate in the scheme, or The Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Higher Education (SIU – www.siu.no)
