All upper secondary Level 2 pupils (Vg2) are from from the fall 2007 entitled to a new non-means-tested grant. The grant is intended to help cover the cost of learning materials and essential personal equipment, and the amount given depends on the education programme you follow. All pupils in ordinary upper secondary education may receive:

Everyone can get up to NOK 82 900 each academic year (ten months). The total amount is initially given as a loan. If you do not live in the same house as your parents, up to 40 % of the amount may be converted to a grant. In order to receive maximum grant you have to
- pass all your exams
- earn less than NOK 116 983 in 2007
- have assets not exceeding NOK 231 426 (2007)
The support remains a loan if you live at home with your parents, even if you pass your exams.
Additional grants for providing for children
If you have children who have been granted a residence permit and are living with you in Norway, you may be given an additional grant. The size of the grant depends on your income and the income of your spouse or cohabitant.
Additional loan for school fees
You may receive an additional loan of maximum NOK 50 880 each year to cover school fees. If the school fees exceed this amount, you must pay the rest yourself.
