The university wants to open a day-care centre near Nygårdsparken, and is already discussing the matter with local authorities and Studentsamskipnaden.

"To provide day-care facilities close to both study and workplace is good personnel policy and aids recruitment.  We can rearrange Kropelin’s villa and Jahnebakken 6 and 8 so that they are suitable for day-care," says University Dir. Kari Tove Elvebakken.

The university is in touch with local authorities and Studentsamskipnaden would like to run the day-care centre.  Elvebakken believes that the plan will be carried out.

The town council informs that the plans for the day-care centre are on schedule.  There will probably be 300 more day-care centre places than the 2300 that were originally planned for 2007.  Several of them will be temporary.

"By establishing day-care centre facilities for employees and students, UiB can prioritize its own needs," says Elvebakken.

The university owns Fagertun Day-Care Centre on Kalfarveien which is run by SIB and has room for 51 children.  Forty-six places are reserved for employees, who are preferably employed in recruitment posts.
