We hope that lots of students will turn up at the Kvarteret these days, both International and Norwegians. First of all, this is a good opportunity to learn more about international issues and problems. The UN Millennium Development Goals will be the focus of attraction in many lectures and debates. This years main theme is goal number 7, to ensure environmental sustainability. In addition, the Israeli/Palestinian conflict will be thoroughly discussed, says Aslaug Sæther, project leader at Utdanning i Bergen.
All for free
Furthermore, the International Student Days is about culture. The International Cultural Night is arranged by International students in Bergen.
International Cultural Night was a great success last year. Dishes from at least 25 countries will be served this year. And what is more, all arrangements are free, including the concerts. On Wednesday Wagëblë, a hip hop band from Senegal, will give a concert, as will Forza. Entering the stage on Thursday is Soul Survival, an Oslo-based reggae band. The concerts are also a part of the World Music Festival.
Get acquainted
The social aspect is the single most import one with the International Student Days.
This is a great opportunity for Norwegian students to meet with some of the International students here in Bergen. And at the same time it is a great opportunity for Bergens International students to get acquainted with Norwegian students. So we certainly hope that lots of students will show up, and we wish you all welcome, International students as well as Norwegian, Aslaug Sæther rounds off.
