An international institution

NHH and its faculty member have always had a strong international orientation, with a large number of our faculty member having obtained their PhDs from North American or European universities, and several of our professors are internationally recognised as leading authorities in their fields. Our participation in international research networks, exchange of faculty members, publications in international journals and international student exchange are all very important for us. We host a number of international workshops and seminars every year and frequently invite guest lecturers from overseas institutions.

Amongst the best in Europe

Accreditation by the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) ensures that NHH strives to maintain the highest level of teaching and research. Membership of the Community of European Management Schools (CEMS), the Partnership in International Management (PIM) and bilateral agreements mean that NHH was partnerships with some of the leading institutions for economics and business administration in the world. NHH is also an active participant in educational programmes under NORDPLUS / NOREK and ERASMUS and was Norway's representative in pilot project that established the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). With Norwegian membership of the Bologna Process, the study programmes at NHH conform to the standard European model for Bachelor, Master and Doctorial degrees (3+2+3).

Educating and researching beyond the boundaries of Norway

NHH also actively cooperates in research and teaching with leading international institutions. Faculty members are actively encouraged to spend sabbaticals at institutions overseas and, in cooperation with other leading business schools, NHH is actively involved in developing teaching programmes in economics and business administration at partner institutions in Central and Eastern Europe. These include the Warsaw University of Technology Business School (WUTBS), the Baltic Management Institute (BMI) and St Petersburg State University School of Management.

Exchange is a key element of student life at NHH

The most visible sign of NHH's cooperation with our international partners is the student exchange programme, which has grown to assume considerable proportions here at NHH. About 50% of our own students take at least one semester on exchange, and this is well above the student exchange targets set at both national and European levels (the EU goal is that 10% of all students in higher education participate in an exchange programme). In the 2003/2004 academic year NHH had 181 students going out on exchange and 145 students coming in from our partner institutions worldwide.

Activities coordinated by the International Office

NHH's cooperation with foreign educational and research institutions is managed by the International Office, which was established in January 1994. The function of the International Office is to serve as a link between students and staff at NHH and our foreign partners.
