The Student Union at NHH is one of the most active student organisations in Norway. At NHH there are groups to accommodate almost every student interest. The school encourages students to start new groups that cater to all the students' varying interests. The students consider working in the student association as a valuable experience, and it is also a great opportunity to get to know other students.
Most of the officially recognized councils and interest groups have their offices located at main building "Kontorlandskapet". This office area is located right next to the main entrance of the school. Some other groups are located at the Merino building.
The easiest way to contact the groups is to drop by a group's office or to send them an e-mail. If you don't know where the office is, or don't have access to an e-mail address, you could leave a note in the group's post box located near the front of the NHH Service Building. All the groups have post boxes by the main entrance next to Klubben.
Getting involved in the student union is a great experience in itself and also an excellent way of getting to know people in other study programs at NHH. Groups that have been very popular among foreign students in the past are:
| The Mountaineering Group | "Lurken Telemarkslag" | |
| International Week | The Athletic Organization ("IU") | |
| The Scandinavian Management Symposium | The Running Club ("Staff.kom") | |
| UKEN Student Festival | The Economic Winter Games |
Below are some brief descriptions of the clubs and organizations that the school offers. Please be aware that some of the organizations might be easier to join than other groups because of the Norwegian language barrier. In addition, some organizations desire to have their workers commit to working for more than one year during their education.
It is important to distinguish the groups that have "underutvalg" council status from those that have "interesse" interest group status. There is no exact translation for "underutvalg" but they will here be referred to as councils. If a group is a council it means that it is officially sponsored by the student body organization that all NHH students automatically are members of. If a group becomes an officially recognized council, it must follow all the rules and regulations of NHHS (the student organization at NHH) which means that it is more restricted than the "interesse" interest group. While an interest group is free to make its own decisions, a council must often go through a bureaucratic acceptance process. The board of a council is usually elected through the official school elections that take place at the end of each semester. At these elections all students at NHH are entitled to vote. The members of the interest groups elect their own board members independently. Election procedures may vary from group to group.
Each group fits into one of the following categories:
"Kjernestyret" is composed of seven people who are responsible for coordinating and administrating the different functions of the student organizations at NHH. The positions are leader, academic affairs, financial affairs, internal affairs, marketing, external affairs and information coordinator. The board is elected at the end of each fall semester.
