Studying at NHH

Academic Calendar

The academic year begins in the middle of August and finishes by the middle of June. However, for exchange students the examinations will be finished by the end of May.

The academic year is divided into 2 semesters;
* Fall semester: August 9  - December 15 (approx.)
* Spring semester: January 3 - June 20 (approx.)

The semester is scheduled for 13-14 weeks and each class will normally meet for a minimum of 36 hours. Students will be required to participate in group work with class presentations and to write term papers.

Workload

All Graduate courses of the Master programme / Siviløkonom Degree Course and the MIB programme are equal to 7.5 ECTS-credits.1 One semester full course load at NHH is equal to 4 courses (30 ECTS-credits). We expect visiting exchange students to take 4 courses per semester

Lectures

The faculty consists of NHH professors, as well as guest lecturers from other universities and the business community. Courses are often team-taught in order to benefit from the wide variety of specialisation represented by the faculty. The most common teaching methods are lectures combined with term papers and student presentation. At NHH the lecturers arrive on time, and thus we expect students to do the same.

Please note that attendance to the lectures is compulsory. In order to sit for the exam you need a valid course registration as mentioned above. If you have registered properly, the Office for Academic and Student Affairs will provide course approvals.bilde

The study programmes at NHH are based on a large degree of independent study and study groups.

Some of the professors specify when they are available to students for questions. Most professors, however, expect you to make an appointment either after lectures or on the phone.

1 ECTS is the European Community Course Credit Transfer System. The ECTS was developed by the Commission of the European Communities in order to provide common procedures to guarantee academic recognition of studies abroad. It provides a way of measuring and comparing learning achievements, and transferring them from one institution to another.
