The overall goal of this project is to understand and quantify the response of benthic foraminifera to environmental forcings in order to develop and refine this microfossil group as proxy indicators of past environmental changes in the Arctic.
Sub-goals-Advance the knowledge of benthic foraminiferal ecology in the Arctic by studying the living faunal composition and their stable oxygen and carbon isotopic ratios. -Calibrate these data with physical environmental parameters -Develop local transfer functions. -Apply our newly developed proxy method in sediment cores in order to reconstruct past environmental changes during the last millennia.
