Norad Fellowship Programme (NFP)

The Norad Fellowship Programme (NFP) is in the process of being replaced by NOMA, which emphasises developing sustainable master programmes in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.

The Norad Fellowship Programme is based on a vision that good educational opportunities at Norwegian universities and university colleges can contribute to increased competance in the South. Most of the courses in the programme are held in Norway and run over a period of two years. All courses are considered to hold a high academic standard.

The decision to phase out the programme, which has been running since 1965, was based on an external evaluation which is available on Norad's website.

The last batch of fellows was accepted in 2006 and will graduate by 2008. This marks the complete phasing out of the NFP. A reunion will be arranged at the completion of the programme to commemorate its successes and to cement the ties established among its many fellows.

Programme activities 2007

As the NFP is in the process of being replaced by NOMA priority has been given to reporting on any issues regarding this change. A comprehensive final report will be produced for 2008, the final year of the programme. The year 2007 has gone according to plan as no recruitment of students has taken place. Reports indicate that the programme will be missed at the Norwegian universities that have taken part, but also indicate an excitement for seeing what the future under NOMA will bring.
